Technology Transfer & Licensing

Structuring licensing deals, non-disclosure agreements (NDAs), and material transfer agreements (MTAs) to bridge the gap between academia and corporate industry.

Service Overview

Technology transfer is the process of transferring scientific findings, technical knowledge, and research prototypes from the academic laboratories of the University of Ibadan to commercial entities. This ensures that academic breakthroughs can be scaled up and commercialized for public benefit.

CIPPAC acts as the primary institutional liaison, negotiating licensing terms, managing Material Transfer Agreements (MTAs) for biological/chemical specimens, and enforcing Non-Disclosure Agreements (NDAs) to protect pre-patent research during commercialization pitches.

Technology Transfer Pathway

1. Innovation Auditing & Valuation

We evaluate patented university research to determine its market fit, potential application domains, and economic valuation before pitching to potential industry buyers.

2. Marketing & Industry Matchmaking

We pitch UI research innovations to corporate partners, venture capitalists, and state agencies looking for technical solutions, ensuring collaborative matchmaking.

3. Agreement Structuring

CIPPAC legal counsels draft and negotiate licensing contracts, MTAs, and collaborative research agreements, establishing royalty percentages and milestone fees.

Legal Instruments Managed

  • Licensing Contracts: Granting corporations the right to commercialize patented UI research.
  • Material Transfer Agreements (MTAs): Regulating the transfer of research materials for external lab testing.
  • Collaboration Agreements: Establishing intellectual property ownership terms for joint research projects.
